I was walking over to the bookstore and I saw this. Since I had the shiny new camera Dad got me (ahem), I couldn't resist.

All I can think is that someone must have really wanted to be an astronaut before they had a kid. Anyone know what this actually is?

Thrilled to meat you!

I've been asked what I did for my Halloween on repeated occasion, and I usually get blank stares when I try to explain. Basically, I followed these guys around. The best part of this whole thing is that no one knows what's happening, so everyone just sees a bunch of people in makeup show up. Flashmobs for the win, people. Hope you enjoy the video. I'll take questions regarding the sanity of the average Illini after the viewing.

Like something out of a sci-fi show.

KNOXVILLE, Tennessee (AP) -- A comet that unexpectedly brightened in the last couple of weeks and is now visible to the naked eye is attracting professional and amateur interest.

Full story here

The comet is exploding and its comma, a cloud of gas and dust illuminated by the sun, has grown to be bigger than the planet Jupiter. The comet lacks the tail usually associated with such celestial bodies but can be seen in the northern sky, in the constellation Perseus, as a fuzzy spot of light about as bright as the stars in the Big Dipper.

Now if only it caused random comic-book-esque mutations in the population at large.

I am a member of an organization known as Belegarth Medieval Combat Society, as a few of you already know (whether you want to or not). I figured that since my descriptions of it often garner little better than blank stares, I'd throw up an entry with a news article and some photos. It's fun, I swear. Don't give me that look.

These are my boys, the Fighting Uruk-Hai.

And an excellent news article:
