I was walking over to the bookstore and I saw this. Since I had the shiny new camera Dad got me (ahem), I couldn't resist.

All I can think is that someone must have really wanted to be an astronaut before they had a kid. Anyone know what this actually is?

So the Twike or whatever it is - very cool, but the baby car seat makes it awesome. I do wonder about the cabling in the car seat... Plug in the baby or lash the seat down? Maybe baby's job is charging the vehicle.

Here's the Twike website.

It looks awesome, but when I say "Twike," I can't help thinking that I sound like a two-year-old. Or Elmer Fudd.

I'm such an enviro-geek. I looked over the website, and all I can think is that it seems a lot cooler now.

Cool, but not worth the thirty grand they want for one.

That is pricey. I can't help but think it could be made for less.

My car cost less than half that. A little excessive. Especially since I know about four or five guys who could build it four less than a third. Still, a really cool idea.

From the Twike FAQ:

how

It all starts in the human heart.
That gets the blood pumping,
which gets the legs moving,
which gets the TWIKE rolling.

Breathing helps,
and the TWIKE helps breathing,
both in the lungs of the well-conditioned pilot,
and in the clean air flowing smoothly
behind the aerodynamic shell.

Tailpipes?
We don't need no stinking tailpipes.
The TWIKE has 7000 watts on tap
at the touch of a button.
In addition, a hard-charging pair of riders
can produce 500 watts of power
and extend the range up to 50%.
