Back in the days when the Houghton air base was open in UP Michigan, the fighter jocks used to buzz the lake where the family has a cabin.

I've heard a number of stories of early morning fishermen and pilots seeing each other a bit too late. Fishermen in small boats ended up getting wet.

On one early morning when I was there, a jet came down the lake very, very early. It was loud enough to shake the cabin violently. It was a pretty awful way to wake up. I don't think the lake residents really miss the air base.
