HUNTINGBURG, Ind. - The parents of an 8-year-old southern Indiana girl who swallowed 20 marble-size steel balls and half as many magnets from a building set want the toy completely removed from stores.
Haley Lents of Huntingburg underwent emergency intestinal surgery last month in Indianapolis after she swallowed pieces from her Mega Brands Magnetix MagnaCase set.

We've had this conversation before. Now, an 8 year- old swallowing THIRTY large toy pieces (pieces not even part of the original Magnetix recall, and not defective). Who wants the toy company to cave, and who thinks the family should go live in a cave? P.S. No mention of mental retardation in either the 8yr old child OR the whiz kid's parents.

...where enough children are injured or killed by a toy that it is time to revisit the concept entirely.

Where I do not think my child would ingest the toy, I will not buy it to prevent the injury of visiting children. Personally, I find it not all that fun and a hazard to our omnipresent electronics.

Buy Zome instead. It teaches mathematical concepts, is fun, you can build larger things and it is made in the USA.

Thwarting natural selection? Early life forms had all sorts of crazy ideas about what to consume. While DEATH is obviously cruel & harsh punishment for little toy- eating kids, the removal of Magnetix from market will probably not help this child (nor other gifted children like her that have yet to enjoy the pleasures of emergency surgery) make better life choices.

I dunno. Stories like this, that identify the wrong villain, just drum- up all sorts of confusing thoughts for me. What was the motive & background of the "journalist"? Nobody ever points to the most important parts of the untold stories!

BTW, Zome looks fun AND delish. I will check it out.
