The number of Americans with diabetes increased by 15 percent in two years to 24 million, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. About 8 percent of the population now has the disease, mainly Type 2 diabetes, which is linked to obesity and sedentary living, the agency said in a report using data from 2007. A quarter of people ages 60 and older had diabetes, the agency said. The number of people worldwide with diabetes will double to 366 million by 2030

And I get to welcome myself to that club.

Sorry to hear that, Hay! Counting carbs and close management of blood sugar... Test a lot in the beginning and learn what raises your sugar. You gotta do it, as the side effects of extra sugar is something akin to Drano in your capillaries (causing major damage in extremities and organs)!

Weight loss and exercise can do wonders for reducing Type 2, nearly reversing it, but managing your sugar intake will do a great lot of good, too.

Another thing, have yourself checked for other aspects of metabolic syndromes. Thyroid problems, for example, are just as deadly and are more common than diabetes. These make it a bit harder to lose weight or maintain a good level of activity.

I was borderline for gestational diabetes, but so far seem to have missed out on Type 2. Still randomly test sugar.

I am part of this club (not happy about it myself).
The Keeme has spoken!
